En 1928, el director danés Carl Theodor Dreyer estre- nó la película La pasión de Juana de Arco. Su protagonista, la mítica María Falconetti —ambos nacimos un 21 de julio—, no volverá a hacer cine y continuará su trayectoria actoral en los escenarios. Se ha sabido, muchos años después, que los célebres primeros planos de Falconetti, en la agónica y desesperada confesión de Juana, se rodaron sobre fondo rosa, para dotar a la imagen en blanco y negro del tono que más satisfacía al director. De haberse filmado en color, el primer plano de Falconetti hubiera derivado en retrato pop. Dramática y donosa a la vez.
